Scott Ashby is an Executive Officer, Deputy Head of the Americas Division, and Managing Executive Officer and President of Nikko America.  Scott is based in our New York office.

Scott joined SMBC Nikko Securities America, Inc. as Senior Deputy President of Nikko America and Deputy Head of Coverage and Capital Markets in September 2021. Scott also serves as the Co-Head of SMBC’s Corporate & Investment Banking Coverage & Capital Markets business.  
 
Prior to his current role at the firm, Scott focused on driving revenue growth for the primary side of the business with direct oversight of Debt Capital Markets, High Yield Capital Markets, Debt Syndicate, Structured Finance, Equity Capital Markets, and Investment Banking Advisory.
 
Before joining SMBC, Scott was with Morgan Stanley for 24 years, most recently as a Managing Director and Co-Head of Fixed Income Capital Markets in the Americas within the Global Capital Markets (GCM) division. Scott was responsible for the investment-grade debt underwriting (Coverage and Syndicate) and risk management (FX and Derivatives origination) in the U.S. and Latin America. In addition to managing the Fixed Income Capital Markets practice, Scott built his career focusing on the coverage of financial institutions and corporations around the globe, specifically U.S. and foreign banks, insurance and finance companies, global asset managers, the global automotive industry as well as a select group of large multinational corporations including General Electric, AB InBev, and Coca-Cola. Scott was Co-Head of the ESG Center of Excellence, a cross-divisional practice focused on driving innovation and change as it relates to capital raising, corporate finance, and M&A on an ESG-friendly basis. Scott served as a member of Global Capital Markets Connects as a mentor for its diversity and inclusion program.  Additionally, Scott was actively involved in campus recruiting, leading the GCM recruiting effort for Duke and Stanford Universities, and was a member of the GCM Managing Director promotion committee.

Scott held several positions within Morgan Stanley’s Fixed Income Capital Markets business, including the Head of Financial Institutions Coverage, Head of Yankee Bond Origination, and General Industrial coverage. Scott worked closely with Morgan Stanley’s Equity Research division covering the Automotive sector. He joined Morgan Stanley in 1997 as a Financial Analyst in Debt Capital Markets. Prior to Morgan Stanley, Scott was a Financial Analyst at Toyota Motor Credit Corporation in their Treasury division.

Scott previously served as a board member of the Financial Economics Institute at Claremont McKenna College and remains active with the recruiting and mentoring students and liaising with alumni. In addition, Scott spent several years as a board member of the Red Bull Theater Company in New York City.  

Scott has a Bachelor of Arts in economics and government from Claremont McKenna College, where he spent a semester studying European integration at Drew University in Brussels, Belgium.
