Katsuyuki Kubo is Executive Officer, U.S. Chief of Staff, and Deputy Head of the Americas Division. He was appointed to these roles on April 1, 2023, and as of January 2024 also serves as the U.S. COO. He is based in our New York office.

Prior to his current assignment, Katsuyuki was named Executive Officer and General Manager of the Structured Finance Department in Tokyo in April 2020, where he managed the overall operation of the department, including setting strategic goals and initiating and overseeing the development and execution of the business strategy as well as the financial budget and objectives.

Before his leadership role with the Structured Finance Department, Katsuyuki was Managing Director and Co-General Manager of U.S. Corporate Banking (now Corporate & Investment Bank Coverage) in the Americas Division from 2014 to 2020. Prior to his tenure with U.S. Corporate Banking, he was Group Head of
Structured Finance in New York, where he was responsible for executing lead arranger and financial advisory mandates in the energy, natural resources, and infrastructure sectors.

Katsuyuki also supported the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) in Washington, D.C. as an Investment Officer for three years, where he worked on project finance and structured trade finance in Latin America and the Caribbean.

Katsuyuki joined a predecessor bank of SMBC in April 1993, and he has a Bachelor of Arts degree from the Kyoto University Department of Law.
