Powering Poland’s Green Future. SMBC finances Baltyk II & III Wind Farms
SMBC successfully financed Baltyk II and Baltyk III offshore wind farms in Poland, supporting sponsors Equinor AS and Polenergia SA. The total project finance package across both wind farms exceeds EUR 6 billion.
SMBC acted as Mandated Lead Arranger and Hedge Provider, marking a significant milestone as our third and fourth offshore wind transactions in Poland in recent years. With a combined generation capacity of 1.44 GW, Baltyk II and III will produce clean energy to power up to 2 million Polish households. Once fully commissioned in 2028, the wind farms will operate for 30 years, playing a pivotal role in Poland’s green energy transition and supporting the country’s Energy Policy 2040, which prioritises offshore wind as a key driver for carbon emission reduction.
These projects represent the beginning of a new era in Poland’s offshore wind development. Beyond clean energy generation, Baltyk II and III will contribute to Poland’s industrial future by creating jobs, enhancing energy security, and accelerating the energy transition. SMBC is proud to be the only Japanese bank involved in the Baltyk II and III transaction, further solidifying our sector expertise and market-leading capabilities in power and renewables.
