Katsuya Fujita

Head of Sales and Trading

Katsuya Fujita is an Executive Officer, Deputy Head of SMBC Americas Division, and Head of Sales and Trading. He was appointed to these positions on April 1, 2023. Katsuya is based in our New York office.

In his role, Katsuya is responsible for building the integrated platform and expanding its business in fixed income, rates, equities, and FX in the Americas Division across various entities.

Prior to his current position, Katsuya was an Executive Officer and General Manager of the Planning Department’s Global Markets Business Unit from 2021 to 2023, where he was responsible for establishing the medium-term management plan of the Global Markets Business Unit of SMFG. From 2020 to 2021, Katsuya was General Manager of the Global Markets Marketing Department.  

Katsuya was appointed an Executive Officer in 2019.

Katsuya has more than 30 years of experience at SMBC, joining the company in 1990. He has held roles in global markets business in Tokyo, London, Shanghai, Hong Kong, and New York. Katsuya held several leadership positions with regional Treasury Departments, including his position as Joint General Manager in Tokyo from 2011 to 2013; General Manager for SMBC China Ltd. in Shanghai from 2013 to 2015; General Manager of the Treasury Department in New York from 2015 to 2016; General Manager of the International Treasury Department in Tokyo from 2017 to 2019; General Manager of the Treasury Department, East Asia Division from 2019 to 2020; and General Manager of the Global Markets Marketing Department from 2020 to 2021.

Katsuya holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in political science from Waseda University.
