Summer Internship Program

Our Summer Intern Program offers a hands-on experience in one of our business units. Your immersive internship allows you to meaningfully contribute to the team while attending sessions where you hear from representatives of our various businesses and learn what other interns are working on, go on a field trip or two, and network. Many of our summer interns return as analysts after graduating from university.

From the first day, you will be integral to your team, building financial models, developing client presentations, conducting research, and observing client meetings – all to improve your understanding of the global banking industry. Your internship culminates in a collaborative case study where you will apply the analytical, communication, and presentation skills you’ve developed over the course of the summer.

Rising sophomores, juniors, and seniors enrolled in university full-time are encouraged to apply.

Program begins

Analyst Program

Our Analyst Program launches recent college graduates into a rewarding global banking career. The full-time program begins with immersive learning and then transitions to a position in one of SMBC’s business units.

Analysts first participate in classroom training supported by e-learning coursework and business overviews. The formal classroom programming culminates with a group case study and presentation to management. Opportunities for networking and rotational assignments are given. Individualized development assignments lay a foundation in financial analysis and SMBC’s culture. After completing this phase, graduates move into full-time positions, where they are fully embedded within a team. To round out training and development, each Analyst may be assigned to shadow a tenured team member or receive additional e-learning or classroom instruction and/or rotational assignments.

Because of SMBC’s broad range of global banking solutions, Analysts have the opportunity to work on an interesting array of client challenges, setting them on a professionally rich, long-term career path.
