Through strategic grantmaking and employee driven programs, we harness the full strength of the firm to support and uplift the communities we serve.

Collaboration with our People – SMBC Making Better Communities

We collaborate with our employees so that we can have a bigger impact than we could on our own.  SMBC supports our team members’ passion by offering opportunities to volunteer alongside one another and by providing financial support through the SMBC Global Foundation. Whether it's mentoring youth, supporting local nonprofits, or responding to urgent needs, we celebrate the causes our employees care about most.


In FY24, Team SMBC – representing 56% of our workforce – came together to support firm-sponsored charitable initiatives, contributing over 7,500 hours of volunteering in our communities, reaching 11 cities and 5 countries across the SMBC Americas Division.

Charitable Giving – The SMBC Global Foundation

Since 1994, the SMBC Global Foundation has functioned as the philanthropic arm of the SMBC Americas Division, driving strategic giving in key focus areas as well as areas that our employees care about most.

SMBC Building Resilient Futures

SMBC Building Resilient Futures seeks to enrich the lives of youth through the power of the outdoors by enabling young people from under-resourced communities to access high-quality, nature-based expeditions and summer camp experiences.

    There are growing indications of declining youth well-being, driven by reduced youth independence and increased time spent online. These shifts have drastically limited opportunities for healthy growth through play, exploration, and peer connection.

  • The Solution

    We believe that access to high-quality, nature-based, away-from-home experiences can help reverse this trend. These experiences foster curiosity, compassion, trusted relationships, and independence – setting the foundation for bright, resilient futures.
