Masahiro Yoshimura is the Deputy U.S. CEO of Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation (SMBC) Americas Division and a Managing Executive Officer.
Previously, he served as General Manager of Corporate Planning Department at SMBC/Sumitomo Mitsui Financial Group, Inc., where he was responsible for formulating and executing the Group’s business strategy and strategic financial planning, as well as overseeing the Group’s governance.
Earlier in his career, Mr. Yoshimura served as a General Manager of the Business Development Department, spearheading diverse investment projects, including Fullerton India (India); VP Bank and FE Credit (Vietnam); Rizal Commercial Banking Corp. (Philippines); Kenedix (Japan); and OakNorth (U.K.).
He has also held the role of Deputy General Manager, Corporate Planning Department, leading the Group’s corporate strategy and mid-term management plans. In addition, he directed several intragroup reorganizations across SMFL and SMDSAM and played a key role in the acquisition of GE’s Japan leasing business by SMFL, the 100% acquisition of TT International (U.K.) and an investment in Ares Management Corp. (U.S.).
Mr. Yoshimura was also instrumental in the landmark acquisition of RBS’s aircraft leasing business, now known as SMBC Aviation Capital, as well as in establishing the alliance with Bank of East Asia in Hong Kong.
Before rejoining SMBC in 2011, he served as Senior Vice President at Daiwa Securities SMBC Principal Investments, a principal investment firm and joint venture between SMBC and Daiwa Securities Group, Inc., beginning in June 2005.
Mr. Yoshimura initially joined Sumitomo Bank, a predecessor of SMBC, in 1995. He held roles at the Shimbashi branch (1995-1998), the Corporate Research Department (1998-2000), and the Planning Department, International Banking Division (2002-2005).
Born in Kyoto, Japan, in 1971, Mr. Yoshimura holds a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Tokyo, Faculty of Law, and an LL.M. from the University of Pennsylvania Law School.
