NEW YORK – June 2, 2026 – SMBC Group announced today that Tom Mercein has joined the bank as Deputy Head of SMBC Nikko Securities America, Inc. (Nikko America), where he will support continued growth across the region.

A managing director based in New York, Tom will continue to strengthen SMBC’s client connections, with a focus on alternative private credit providers.

Tom has more than three decades of experience in investment banking and capital markets and spent most of his career at Credit Suisse, with roles spanning Chairman and Chief Investment Officer of the Americas Pension Committee, Vice Chairman of Investment Banking and Capital Markets, and Global Head of Debt Capital Markets. Most recently, he served as CEO of Homium, a platform that transforms residential home equity into an institutional digital asset class.

Tom will report to Scott Ashby and Richard Eisenberg, Americas Co-Heads of Coverage and Capital Markets for SMBC.
