SMBCE has closed a deal with Global Infrastructure Partners (GIP) for the acquisition of Gatwick Airport Limited.
The consortium led by GIP, who also own London City Airport, secured £1.125bn of financing for the 100% share capital from BAA and future capital expenditure programme.
SMBCE was appointed MLA and bookrunner in the transaction club of 12 banks.
The sale followed a Competition Commission ruling and has received EU merger regulation clearance. GIP has indicated plans to upgrade and modernise the airport.
