Waste
SMBC group has a broad range of experience in the waste sector that includes financing energy from waste plants, MBT plants, gasification plants and biomass plants. In April 2009, we closed the largest European PPP waste project to date, Greater Manchester Waste, co-arranged by, amongst others, the EIB and the UK Treasury Infrastructure Finance Unit. In July 2004 we closed the financing for the Tokyo Super Eco Town project that uses gasification technology to recover energy from waste from Tokyo’s construction and medical waste. Our experience in the UK includes acting as lead arranger on the Cumbria Waste PPP project that utilises MBT technology.

Water Treatment

SMBC group is active in the water sector in the UK, Europe and Middle East. Our experience includes being a lender on the Northern Ireland Wastewater PPP Project, Project Omega, which involves the upgrade and construction of wastewater treatment works and sludge disposal facilities for Northern Ireland.
