SMBC group has developed an intensive relationship with the key Russian players in the rapid development of railways, ports and containerisation. This involves financing of railways, the acquisition of ports and the modernisation of container terminals right through to logistics centres throughout Russia.
SMBC group is fully involved in the development of Russian container terminals including Novorossiysk in the Black Sea, St Petersburg and Ust-Luga in the Baltic Sea, and in recent port developments in the Far East, such as Vladivostok. The developments of ports, containerisation and bulk export terminals are closely aligned to SMBC’s expertise in mining, metals and shipping.
