SMBC has had many clients from Africa for a number of years. Customer contact is through the Bank's European Division based in London, but the Bank also has physical presence through its representative offices in Cairo and Johannesburg. The Bank has most clients in Northern African countries (Egypt, Morocco, Tunisia) and South Africa. The main business focus includes:
- debt arranging, where SMBC is one of the most active arrangers of medium term syndicated loans in the world debt markets
- project finance, where we have proven track record in infrastructure projects
- provision of longer term funds supported by the various export credit agencies and
- currency and interest rate risk management, SMBC Capital Markets, Inc.
Business with customers elsewhere in the region is predominantly focused on structured, trade and project finance, including the use of the various Export Credit Agencies.
Please note that our services are not available to individuals or private customers and are available only to major corporations, banks and institutions and are made available out of Europe Division offices. We have no branches of our bank in Africa.
