Our commitment to Japanese Yen clearing has made us one of the most competitive providers of JPY clearing services. By drawing on the professional expertise of our highly experienced staff throughout the world, SMBC provides the highest level of service to over 2,500 correspondent banks, among which around 900 international banks have yen accounts with us. The merger with Sakura Bank in 2001 substantially increased our share in the yen clearing market to about 13%. In addition to the synergistic and other benefits to be gained by this alliance, we now have a stellar global corporate customer base in terms of both quality and volume, which has dramatically increased our volume of commercial payments.
