SMBC has been actively engaged in the area for the past 10 years out of its London office, becoming one of the leading arranger of syndicated loan facilities for customers from the region. We have arranged the first syndicated facilities in a number of countries following the liberalisation of CEE and many debut facilities.
SMBC is also the leading arranger of syndicated guarantee facilities in favour of the EIB for customers from Central and Eastern Europe. We arranged the first in the region for CEZ a.s. of Czech Republic in 1996 and arranged a further 12 since then totalling in excess of EUR 1.2 billion. These facilities built on our knowledge gained in arranging similar facilities in Italy, Portugal and Spain. The experience has benefitted customers in Slovenia (3), Czech Republic (2), Hungary (1), Slovakia (2), Estonia (1) and Poland (3).
