SMBC Global Foundation Asian Scholarship Program  is an annual scholarship grant program which is carried out by SMBC Global Foundation, Inc. in agreement with 27 universities in Asia. The Program’s aims are: 

  • To give aid to thousands of students at high-ranking universities in China, Indonesia, Thailand, Malaysia, Vietnam, Hong Kong, Singapore, and the Philippines.
  • To promote close relationships between the Foundation and communities throughout these countries.

As of 2004, the Program is administered in partnership with the Institute for International Education (IIE), an independent, 501(c)(3) tax-exempt public charity which runs the renowned Fulbright Scholarships on behalf of the U. S. Congress. IIE has 15 international offices in addition to their U. S. operations, all of which are manned by local staff who have deep ties to their community.
